Why Collect Antique Walking Sticks?

Some people are born collectors. There is just something about searching high and low for an item that will give you satisfaction once you put this on your shelf where you put the rest of the pieces are.

Once the item has been coveted, it is regarded as very important. This is the same for every collector anywhere in the world. The quest and the discovery of the item that we have long been searching for is what has us hooked in the whole collecting hobby.

There are people who collect antique walking sticks. You may wonder what for when they can just get the new ones anyway. Antique walking sticks give the collector some sense of authenticity when they are held in their hands.

It is the same thing with doll collectors. There may be a bunch of new dolls to collect but there are still people who prefer buying antique dolls just as there are people who invest in antique walking sticks.

When asked why they prefer antique walking sticks, most of the people who are into this hobby reply that they like the sense of intimacy that comes with it. As the owner of antique walking sticks, the collector feels that he is part of a history with each stick that is added to his collection.

There are also collectors who are into history and thus they do their best to know the culture and the story behind the antique walking sticks that they collect.

There are antique walking sticks that are historically significant and these are the most sought after. The thrill for the collector really is the hunt and the discovery.

Typically, he engages in forum boards and discussions about walking sticks. He gathers as much information as he can. He also checks whether he can get antique walking sticks at a cheaper rate from this place than that place.

Collectors also look up the previous owners of the antique walking sticks that they buy. There is such a large variety to choose from and of course they also have their own preferences.

They go for the ones that is closest to their style. The avid collectors really look into the history and if these are historically significant, they do not have second thoughts whatsoever to buy these.

They know that this is worth an investment and is also a prized addition to their collection.

Perhaps that is why collectors are on the search for the antique walking sticks that will give them the happiness that they are looking for. They know that if they found the stick that they have been hunting, the search was worth it.

collecting chess sets?

i like to play chess but since i was a kid very few people i knew didnt like it (made them think too much)so i decided to collect chess sets i like highly detailed beautiful designs

my question is what should i know when collecting chess sets
special "makes" ,hand crafted,

example i saw one at an antique shop that the king height was about 2" and it was hand carved from israel nice beautiful and 700$

please explain as much as possible

If you do not know what you are really doing it will show immediately when you are talking with someone who is trying to sell you an antique/rare/ set.

Eventually you will find that you do start collecting based on what you like when you see it, just try not to get taken by knowing a few things about the material used in the pieces etc.

Good luck. I have 7 sets with a combined value of 35K so your hobby can get expensive if you do happen across one of those true gems.
