What is the scrap value of an old claw foot tub?
I won't be recycling it myself, I just need a relative value if it were scrapped and recycled. It is a stadard size, very heavy, probably cast iron (it appears to be an antique).
I would like to use it to trade or barter for a nicer armoire/wardrobe on craigslist or bartercycle, and want to know if it is a fair trade.
This would be in the greater Pittsburgh area, if geography matters.
Look in your local yellow pages under "Scrap dealer", "scrap metal", "salvage", etc. You can call the dealer and tell them what you have, and they can tell you the scrap value. In my area, scrap steel goes for about $100/ton at the moment. At that rate, your tub's scrap value is probably about $20. You'd likely get a better value selling it as an antique. Check the net for prices of new ones, or the local classified ads for the price of a used one.
